We loved welcoming author Liesl Shurtliff to Groton Elementary!
✨ During her visit, students:
• Learned about the tales behind fairy tales
• Took part in fun “Mind Benders”
• Met with contest winners
• Had books signed
• Wrapped up the day with our after-school Book Club talking about fractured fairy tales
🎩 Families, don’t forget:
• An Evening of Magic is coming up this week
• David Black will be at Groton Elementary
• Wednesday, March 18
• 6:00–7:00 PM
• Sign-in begins at 5:30 PM
📖 Signed book orders are still open through midnight on March 17 and will be sent back to school after they are signed by the author.
❤️ A big thank you to the Groton Elementary School PTO for helping fund part of this author visit, along with our 21st Century Grant.
👏 We also want to thank Julie Camp, our school’s Instructional Coach and ELA Department Chair, for planning this special visit. We truly appreciate all of her hard work and effort.
🍎 Thank you as well to our Groton Elementary staff for encouraging families to be part of our One School, One Book program and for helping build excitement around reading.
⏰ We continue to encourage families to read with their children for just 15 minutes a day.
Here are easy ways to do that at home:
• UPK/Kindergarten: read a picture book together, talk about the pictures, and name letters or sounds
• 1st-2nd Grade: take turns reading pages, reread favorite books, and talk about characters or the story
• 3rd-5th Grade: have your child read to you, read together, or talk about what happened and what might happen next
🏡 Little reading moments at home can make a big difference!

🥣🍎 National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) celebrates the important role a nutritious school breakfast plays in helping students start their day ready to learn, grow, and succeed.

This week we tested two new recipes to add to our breakfast menu — homemade peanut butter granola bars and homemade granola. Both received very positive responses from our students, so we’re excited to officially add them to our menus! 🎉

Both items are fully scratch-made in our kitchen using wholesome, minimally processed ingredients. Our goal is always to fuel our kids with the best ingredients we can source so they have the energy they need to learn and thrive each day. 💪🍓
