Varsity Report: The Groton Varsity volleyball team set the tone for their season opener on September 3rd with an electric, high-energy performance against Waverly. Playing their very first match together, the squad demonstrated incredible cohesion, grit, and passion from the opening serve. Groton came out firing to make a statement in set one with a decisive 25–18 victory, and even as Waverly responded in subsequent sets (12–25, 9–25, 23–25), Groton fought tooth and nail to the very end, nearly forcing a fifth set in a thrilling final frame.

The incredible court chemistry was matched by standout individual statistics across the rotation. Aleah Myers anchored the attack and defense at the net with 6 kills and 3 blocks, while Coleigh Parker put on a masterclass from the service line with a team-leading 10 service points, 1 ace, 3 kills, and 9 digs. Reed Dyson made her presence felt in every facet of the game, tallying 3 aces, 1 service point, 2 kills, 1 block, and 1 dig, alongside Ariana Hillery and Alyciana Stewart, who added 3 kills (and 1 assist) and 1 kill, respectively.

Setting the rhythm for the offense was a dynamic dual-setter effort from Lacy Batzer (6 assists, 4 service points, 4 digs) and Danika Wright (4 assists, 3 service points), with Cecile Rose adding 2 assists, 1 ace, and 3 service points. On the defensive end, the back row was virtually seamless: Danika Wright anchored the floor with a game-high 11 digs, complemented by 9 digs from Coleigh Parker, 7 digs from Cecile Rose, 4 digs from Lacy Batzer, and 2 digs from Leah Allen.

Though Waverly ultimately took the match 3–1, the inspirational level of fight, mutual support, and pure excitement Groton displayed in their debut proves this team has an exceptional foundation and a bright season ahead.
