PS: It Works! Parenting Skills Workshop Series

The Groton Central School District is pleased to offer a parent workshop on April 11th, 2024 from 6:00 - 7:30 PM in the Groton Jr/Sr High School Cafeteria.
The workshop is entitled Parenting in the Age of Social Media. The Workshop will educate families regarding the opportunities technology provides and the pitfalls/risks of being connected all the time. Social media will be addressed along with understanding when to seek help and what that might look like. Parents will be provided with best practices, practical boundaries to set, and help with tools to set limits without engaging in constant power struggles.
During this time, we will be offering child care. National Honor Society students will be volunteering their time to watch children in the Junior High School Gymnasium. If you know that you will need child care during this time, please email either Mr. Doane (adoane@grotoncs.org) or Adrienne Marquis (amarquis@grotoncs.org).

March 19, 2024
Dear Groton Central School District Community,
This correspondence is being sent in response to recent inquiries regarding the school district’s plans for April 8, 2024, the date of the solar eclipse. Initially the district was collaborating with all component districts in the TST-BOCES who had made the decision in early December to continue to be open on that day. However, at the beginning of March, many of the component districts in our BOCES as well as schools in Cortland County, Onondaga County and across Central New York made the decision to either close or go to a half day instruction on April 8, 2024.
The District does have flexibility with “give back days” this year due to a relatively mild winter. As such, we will be modifying the school calendar to make the scheduled “give back day” of Friday, March 29th a full day of instruction, and move that “give back day” to Monday, April 8th, 2024. In other words, students have school on March 29th, but school will be closed on April 8th, 2024. The District has ordered glasses for viewing the eclipse for all students. If they have arrived by 29th, we will distribute them before the kids head home. If they have not, we will have them available on Monday, April 8th, from 8am to 11:30am for pick up. (Details for said pick-up will be forthcoming should that be necessary.)
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s main office.
Sincerely,
Margo Martin
Superintendent

The Cross Country Boys secured a very respectable 4th place team finish at the Section 4 Overall Championships on 11/2!

Last night, at the Overall IAC Championships, in a race that included all of the best runners in the league, Ross Bush placed 7th overall and earned IAC Allstar Status. Also impressive was that Ross was the 3rd non Senior to cross the finish line. Drew Bush ran to a season best performance placing 55th overall in this championship race. Jordan Roberson stepped up like a veteran Senior running almost a minute faster than he did last year on this course. Tristin Weeks had another solid performance as he continues to place in the top 3 on this Varsity team. William Brehm is the most veteran of this group running in his 3rd IAC Championship. This team will travel to the Sectional Championship next Thursday.
