This coming Friday, October 6th, 2023, is Homecoming here at Groton. The District and Board of Education is pleased to announce we will be using the halftime of the game to commemorate the name of the press box to a longstanding member of the Groton school community who dedicated many, many years of service to the district in a variety of capacities. In an effort to keep the naming of the press box a SURPRISE for the recipient, we will not be sharing the name ahead of time. Please feel free to join us at the Homecoming game to help celebrate this event!

Groton Elementary School is kicking off the Positivity Project this school year!
Each week teachers and staff, including our entire kitchen and daytime custodial staff, will be decked out in their blue P2 shirts to signify kicking off a new word of the week. Students across the building will be diving into 24 different character strengths, such as kindness, honesty, integrity, other people mindset, and teamwork, learning what those strengths mean and how to be their best possible selves for their own personal development as well as for their peers. Students will have the opportunity to earn character cash when they demonstrate these traits, spending it at the school store on various items. We are excited to have our preschoolers all the way up through our 5th graders speaking the same positive language!

The Groton Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer Team Store is OPEN!
The store will close on September 20, 2023. A portion of the proceeds from each purchase goes back to the program. Please know that logos, even if not pictured, will be placed on each item in a color scheme that looks best. On light colored items, the logo will include black and red. On black, the logo colors will include white and red, and on Red, the logo colors will be white and black.
Thank you for your support. Go Groton Soccer!

Sportsmanship Update
As the fall sports season kicks off for the 2023-2024 school year, the Groton CSD wants to make all spectators aware of a new regulation put in place by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) in an effort to make public school sporting events a safe, family-friendly environment for all. Commencing with the fall sports season, the state has instituted updated rules for spectators. Any spectator displaying unsportsmanlike conduct towards another fan, an official, a coach, or a student athlete will be given a warning by the school administrator on-site (unless the act is egregious, at which point they will be removed from the premises immediately). Continued unsportsmanlike conduct will result in removal from the contest AND a requirement the spectator complete a NYS-approved spectator conduct training before being allowed to return to public high school sporting events at any high school in New York.
As has been the case in previous years, we ask all spectators to remember that these events are high school events. As such, “we should recognize the purpose of athletics is to promote physical, mental, social and emotional well-being of individual players and their fans,” and that the games are “between high school students, not professionals.” We encourage everyone in attendance to display proper ideals of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and fair play.
